
Walter E. Washington (1915-2003). He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1933 and from Howard University in 1938 and later received his LLB and Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law in 1948. He also attended American University. He was a Member (1941–66) and Director (1961–66) of the National Capital Housing Authority. He was also Chairman of the Housing Authority of New York City. He was appointed first Mayor-Commissioner of the District of Columbia. He campaigned for self government for D.C., and became its first elected mayor. He was married to Dr. Bennetta Bullock; children, and they had a daughter, Dr. Bennetta Jules-Rosette.
