The Herman Kent Post #777 in Celoron was the setting for the 5th annual Honor Flight Reunion for Veterans who have visited the War Memorials at Washington, DC, with Vets Finding Vets.
Rolland Kidder was the guest speaker, and his audience was delighted to learn of his work having to do with different facets of the World War II Memorial, and some behind-the-scenes details. He was well-known by many Vets due to his own service and time spent in Vietnam on the Mekong Delta River as a Patrol Boat Officer. Others knew him through his service to our District as New York State Assemblyman from 1975-1982, or both.
More than half of the surviving Honor Flight Vets, from VFV Flights beginning in October 2017, enjoyed meeting or reuniting with the other Veterans. Their guests have heard a lot about the memories of the flights, so this was also a chance to meet the Veterans they have been hearing about since the “Trip of a Lifetime”.
These Veterans are the best “Recruiters” of other Veterans for future Honor Flights. They are always eager to add more Vets to their own special club.
