Play ball! The Fenton History Center has a new exhibit on display at the Kennedy Library! This time the theme of all these items is that they are either baseball equipment or merchandise. For example, one of the items currently on display is a baseball bat that was donated to the Fenton in 1999 by Russell E Diethrick Jr. This is one of the most impressive baseball memorabilia donations to us as the bat is in excellent condition. The next baseball related material that is currently on display in Kennedy is a baseball that is from the PONY League in 1951. Did you know the PONY League is actually an acronym as it originally stands for Protect Our Neighborhood Youth, however now it stands for Protect Our Nation’s Youth as it became a national program.
The next item on display is a seat cushion from the Jamestown Jammers. The Jammers were formerly a baseball team in our area that played baseball in the New York Penn League and was affiliated with the Detroit Tigers, Florida/Miami Marlins, Atlanta Braves, and the Pittsburgh Pirates throughout their time as a team. Some famous baseball players that played for the Jammers are current Yankees Outfielder Giancarlo “Mike” Stanton, manager of the LA Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and current Designated Hitter and Outfielder for the Atlanta Braves Marcell Ozuna to name a few famous Jammers. Our last item on display is a Jamestown Community College baseball helmet. This item was likely used by their baseball team in the 1990s. I hope everyone is able to swing on down to see this great exhibit. Go Mariners!
