Notes from the Director – July 2024

Calling all volunteers! We are hosting a volunteer picnic on Saturday, July 27th at 4:00 p.m. The picnic will be held at the Hall House, 73 Forest Drive. The fenton will supply the hot dogs and drinks and we ask that you bring a side dish or dessert to share. The picnic will be rain or shine (we will bring it inside if the weather doesn’t cooperate). Please RSVP at 716-664-6256 or director@fentonhistorycenter.org.

Tickets for the Saints and Sinners Cemetery Tours are now on sale! The Saints & Sinners Tours are October 5th, 12th and 13th. The carriage tours sell out quickly, so make your reservation as soon as possible. The easiest way to reserve your tickets is online at www.fentonhistorycenter.org. President Janet Wahlberg assures us that there are some very interesting residents of Lake View being portrayed this year.

The Saturday Historic Tours have become very popular. Coming up in August are the Lucy Tour on the 3rd, Northside Architecture Tour on the 17th, and the Riverwalk Tour on the 31st, all starting at the Fenton at 10:30 a.m. On Saturday, August 10th, Mike Rohlin and Janet Wahlberg will be leading the Ladies of Lake View Tour, held at Lake View Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tickets for these tours can be purchased online or in our Gift Shop. These tours are a great way to get some exercise while learning about Jamestown and its residents from the past. Also, don’t forget our Lecture Series on Wednesday, August 14th at 1:00 p.m. Tom Goodwill will be doing a presentation on Celeron.

Helen Ebersole will be remembered with a Memorial Service at the Fenton Mansion on Saturday, August 31st at 1:00 p.m. Helen served as President of the Fenton Historical Society from 1980 to 1991 and as Director from 1991 to 1993. She also authored several books that we still carry in our Gift Shop.
