The Fenton History Center’s 2025 lecture series kicks off on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 1 p.m. with Vince Martonis, speaking about 19th Century Chautauqua County potteries, his first pottery program at the Fenton since 1988.
A pottery exhibit has launched at the Fenton, and will be up through May 2. The exhibit includes seven pieces from the Fenton’s pottery collection.
Martonis’ presentation will include a powerpoint and he will also bring additional pieces from Mathews, Fenton & Whittemore (Mayville, Jamestown, Fluvanna), and Haven & Kenyon (Sheridan).
Martonis has written three books on the subject, and two are currently available in the Fenton store while the third is almost published.
Potters Jacob Fenton and his son William are realted to Governor Reuben Fenton. Jacob had first cousin, also named Jacob Fenton, who was the great grandfather of the Governor.
The program is free and open to the public. Donations are appreciated to support the mission of the Fenton to preserve and share the history of the community.
