Our family recently suffered the unexpected loss of a much-loved family member. Our friends and acquaintances had to make a decision whether to visit the funeral home. Should I show up, or not? A surprising number showed up, including many Fenton Staff members and Fenton Board members. That gave our family great comfort.
What if the various friends hadn’t shown up? They wouldn’t necessarily have been missed, since they weren’t expected to be there. Because they made the effort on our behalf, our horrible day was made more bearable. We certainly noticed that they came to support us.
You may wonder: how does this relate to the Fenton? We don’t notice those who don’t come in to help, unless they had signed up for a project. Those who DO show up, are gladly welcomed. There’s always stuff to do, and volunteers are always of help to us. We have a small, but very dedicated staff; they can’t do everything that needs to be done.
What are your strengths? We can use help with documentation, scanning, research, etc. If you don’t feel strong in those areas, we can still use help with “grunt” work, like cleaning, yard work, moving boxes from one area to another.
So, your choice is Show or No Show. I hope you’ll choose to help. If you can’t come in, perhaps you will consider making a donation?
