The first tour of the summer season for the Fenton History Center was held on Saturday, May 31. Sixteen people met at the SS Peter & Paul Church where the tour was led by Parishioner Loraine Galbier-Steffens. The tour included fascinating stories about the church’s architecture and long history in the City of Jamestown.
The second stop was Emmanuel Temple Church on North Main Street. Pastor Uvie Stewart Jr. told us of the church’s current outreach to the youth on the northside of the City and we were able to see the beautiful stained glass windows and woodwork in the historic building.Christ First United Methodist Church was the third stop this year. Church member Mel Feather gave us a tour of the church’s Chapel and Sanctuary. We were then privileged to hear a wonderful organ concert on the historic Schantz organ in the Sanctuary with church Organist Andy Schmidt and his student Madeline DeJoy.
Thank you to all who braved the rain and cold weather to attend the tour and also to the churches that participated this year! We appreciate you all taking time to share your history and faith with us.
