If you are looking for a little outdoorsy activity this fall, we have a special request from Master Gardener Pat Martonis, the designer of our Blue Star Memorial Garden.
As you can see from the attached photos, our long stretch of much sun and little rain was wonderful for our events, but hard on the garden. However, it is approaching the fall clean-up-and-mulch part of the season, and it would be so nice to have a little work party to properly prepare the garden for its long winter nap. Since the flower groupings go with the colors associated with each branch, a handful of volunteers would work out great to cover each section. You might want to “enlist” a friend to join you!
Pat would like to do this, weather permitting, during the second to third week of October. If you’d like to call and leave your name and number, we’ll get back to you with the best date.
When we became a Blue Star Museum in 2022 and then added the garden in 2023, it was not only to have some beauty around the awesome plaque, but also to provide a comfortable respite for travelers. As you can see, some four-legged travelers enjoyed more than the sight of the flowers!
If you would like to be a “recruit”, please call 716-664-6256! Thank you for considering!
PS – Blue Star Museums offer free admission to serving military members and/or their families regardless of where they are from. The dates are from Armed Forces Day in May to Labor Day in September, covering the usual family vacation period.
