On May 6, 2024, the Fenton Time Capsule was officially closed. This project began last year prior to the 60th anniversary of the Fenton History Center.
A committee was formed and consisted of Norman Carlson as Chair along with Sam Genco, Tom Goodwill, Dr. Tom Greer, Rick Roll, and Dan Swackhammer.
The capsule consists of a copper box, which is inserted into a wooden box, which was made from oak wood sourced from the famous Third Street Cathedral Oaks and crafted by Ray Hofgren and Steve Tedquist.
Many items were placed in the time capsule, including local business cards and brochures, Fenton newsletters, lists and photos of Fenton staff and volunteers, 2023 proof set of coins, photos of intersections in the downtown area, and much more.
The time capsule is scheduled to be opened on July 4, 2063. The year 2063 will mark the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Fenton Historical Society in 1963.
